I’m not quite sure what attracts me so much to streetside barbers. Maybe it’s that they epitomize the lack of division between public and private in urban India - where something as intimate as shaving can be done out in the open for everyone to see. Maybe it’s their simplicity - just a stack of combs and a pair a scissors, a hastily hung mirror and you’re in business. Maybe because they represent the undercurrent of village life that is so present in urban Delhi - that despite fancy malls and high-fi salons, these barbers are still there, ready to trim, cut and shave the drivers, laborers, and domestic help that actual make this city run.

I’m thinking of doing a whole photo essay - Streetside Barbers in Delhi Villages. What do you think?
